Opening Day Ticket Purchases

Opening Day for 2019 will be announced in September. Tickets will again be $25 per person.

The sale begins at 10 am sharp, and check-in begins at 9 am. We recommend that you arrive at least 30 minutes early to check in. See FAQs under the Annual Sale tab for more book sale details.

We use PayPal for all online transactions. You do not need a PayPal account to use it. Multiple tickets may be purchased using the drop-down menu.

THERE ARE SOMETIMES SHORT DELAYS AS WE POST THE PURCHASE BUTTON. Please be patient and do not email us if it does not immediately work – give us 30 minutes …just in case. We cannot move your position in line based on issues with PayPal’s code on our website.

Your PayPal receipt will confirm that payment has been received for your ticket(s). Entry into the sale rooms takes about two minutes for all ticket holders and will be arranged first-come first-served in the order in which tickets were purchased.
Entry numbers – it’s all good.
The time stamp on PayPal receipts shows who bought tickets in what order, and you will enter on a “first bought, first in” basis. In other words, if you buy a ticket at 8:01 PM on January 7, you’ll enter before someone who buys at 10:01 PM, or who makes a purchase on a later day. If the PayPal computer code that controls to purchase button takes a few moments to work, please be patient. We are all volunteers and doing our best.
In the very unlikely scenario that two people receive the same time stamp, we will randomly order them. So if two people have a time stamp of 12:01 AM, we will randomly select who goes first. We will have a record of all transactions and will contact you if a sort takes place between you and another customer. Questions? Email us at
Don’t be concerned if you have a later number.
Every buyer gets into the four sale rooms in under 2 minutes, meaning that the person at the head of the line has no real advantage over someone at the end. With so many books to choose from, you’ll always have a vast selection.
Tickets at the door
Opening Day tickets also may be purchased at the door. Those buyers will enter the sale at the back of the line, according to purchase times.
Location, arrival, and sale opening procedures
The Book Sale is held at Princeton Day School, 650 Great Road, Princeton, NJ 08540. Do not use the rink driveway entrance. Park and enter the building at the northwest end.
Children and Other Helpers
No one will be admitted to the Sale without a ticket in hand, including children. We do not recommend bringing anyone under the age of 14 to Opening Day due to the volume of books being moved by buyers.
No wheeled vehicles and carts
Customers may not take carts, strollers, and other wheeled vehicles into the sales areas at any time during the sale. (Wheelchairs, walkers, and other mobility-assisting devices are, of course, permitted. Please feel free to contact us at if you would like to make prior arrangements to facilitate your attendance.)
Amassing books
Some purchasers remove piles of books from the tables to review in private. Please understand that piles of unpurchased books left unsupervised will be re-distributed onto the tables, giving everyone a chance to see them. It’s up to you to keep an eye on your book selections.  Also, due to fire regulations, no objects of any kind may be left inside the fire door areas, demarcated by blue tape on the floor. This includes boxes, books, and coats. This law will be strictly adhered to.
